Reclamation work starts around north east wildfires
With continuing heavy rains dampening the wildfires in the north east and the last of the evacuees returning home, some attention is now turning to land reclamation.
Steve Roberts with Wildfire Management said most of the bulldozer lines and breaks made during the peak of the fire fight around Pelican Narrows will be returned to their original state.
“Those areas [around the communities and in the forest] now have excavators and heavy equipment working on them to ensure they don’t have siltation into water courses and they’ll regenerate naturally,” Roberts said.
However, not all the ground that was ploughed up will need to be completely reclaimed.
