The local Salvation Army branch had another successful holiday season of fundraising, and will be busy expressing its thanks to several community partners in the coming weeks.

Today, Maj. Peter Eason presented the first three certificates of recognition to the Jonas Samson Junior High Me to We group, the local Knights of Columbus, and CJNS Radio Station.

“Every year at Christmas, we have so many people helping,” he said. “Groups, agencies, schools, individuals who come together and support what we do. It’s such an honour for us to have such support. It means a lot to us.”

The nearly 50-member strong Me to We group helped with the Kettle Campaign, and wrapped gifts along with the RBC staff. The Knights of Columbus members also helped man kettles.

London Perry, co-president of the group, said the premise of the group is to volunteer with community endeavours and raise social awareness. She added members have been helping the Salvation Army for two years.

“It was a great way for us to give back,” she said.

CJNS was recognized for hosting the Empty Stocking Fund radiothon for 40 years. Longtime staff member Marg Dull said it’s been an honour for the station to support the community this way.

“It was always great for the station to be involved with something that helped the less fortunate and the community, not only in Meadow Lake, but surrounding areas also,” she said.

The Kettle Campaign combined with other endeavours raised around $25,000 this holiday season, supported 100 families with the hamper program, and helped purchased over 700 toys for families in Meadow Lake and northwest Saskatchewan.
